Downtown Birmingham is bouncing back post-pandemic, new study says
Three years after the pandemic, downtown Birmingham has started to thrive again, according to a recent report from REV Birmingham. As the metro’s biggest economic driver, success downtown means success for the whole region, REV CEO David Fleming said.
“The city gains so much of its revenue from downtown and that revenue supports neighborhoods, and it supports regional assets (like the botanical gardens or the zoo),” Fleming said previously. “…So that’s why it’s really important that we should continue to have a thriving, important, vibrant downtown.”
Starting this year REV will release two Downtown Birmingham Economic Vitality Reports each year, one for the first two quarters and another after the final two quarters.
This data will help REV, which describes itself as “a place-based revitalization and economic development nonprofit,” to pursue its mission to create “vibrant commercial districts, “according to the report.
“REV’s team believes good data is essential to understanding a place and helping it grow,” the report says. “This Downtown Birmingham Economic Vitality Report… helps us identify downtown’s strengths and opportunities.”
