Doug Vickery Jr., who led Flomaton to its only state football championship, announced his retirement at the Hurricanes’ football banquet on Wednesday.

Vickery was 130-82 in 19 years at the Escambia County school and 156-120 in 25 years as a head coach with stops at Ariton, Coffeeville and Florala. His 2018 team beat Piedmont 23-12 to win the Class 3A state title and finish 12-3.
