Dothan man found intoxicated in homeowner’s pool now charged in roommate’s fatal shooting: police
A Dothan man is being held on $1.5 million bond on murder charges after a bizarre series of incidents that resulted in police finding a man dead of multiple gunshot wounds this morning.
According to police, Blake Thomas Evans, 33, has now been charged with murder for the death of Kenneth Bruce, 72.
According to police, officers were called to a residence on Redwood Avenue at about 5:54 a.m. today.
Homeowners told police an unknown man was in a backyard pool. Officers arrived and found Evans on the homeowner’s property with no explanation as to why he was there.
According to police, officers determined Evans was under the influence of an unknown substance and arrested him for public intoxication. Evans was connected to an apartment on Langley Drive.
About 30 minutes later, neighbors notified police that a man had been found lying facedown in the backyard at the address where Evans lived. They found Bruce dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
Investigators say Bruce and Evans were roommates and the two had an argument sometime in the early morning.
During the argument, Evans retrieved a handgun that was kept in the apartment and shot Bruce multiple times before fleeing, police say.
Evans was currently out on bond for an incident that took place in December, in which he was charged with first degree domestic violence, domestic violence strangulation and second degree assault.
