Donald Trump wants Americans to do this as the stock market freefall continues
Keep calm and carry on as the stock market continues to nosedive, according to President Donald Trump.
The president took to his Truth Social media platform to implore Americans to “be strong” as global markets panic in the face of his tariff policy, claiming the economic measure will work out in the end.
“The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!),” Trump posted to his Truth Social account.
“Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!”
On Monday morning, the S&P 500 was down 3.8% in early trading, coming off its worst week since COVID began crashing the global economy in March 2020, according to the Associated Press.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 1,200 points, and the Nasdaq composite was 4% lower, the AP reported. A barrel of benchmark U.S. crude oil briefly dropped below $60 for the first time since 2021.
The reciprocal tariffs announced by Trump last week are bringing foreign leaders to the negotiating table, the president claimed in another Truth Social post.
“Countries from all over the World are talking to us. Tough but fair parameters are being set. Spoke to the Japanese Prime Minister this morning. He is sending a top team to negotiate!” Trump said.
“They have treated the U.S. very poorly on Trade. They don’t take our cars, but we take MILLIONS of theirs. Likewise Agriculture, and many other ‘things.’ It all has to change, but especially with CHINA!!!”
