Domino’s manager suffers ‘life-altering’ injuries in Vestavia Hills hit-and-run while walking home from work
A community is rallying around a manager of the Domino’s in Vestavia Hills after he was injured in a New Year’s Eve hit-and-run while walking home for work.
The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. that Tuesday in the 2300 block of Jacobs Road.
William “Will” Holmes, the 29-year-old night shift manager at the franchise on nearby Columbiana Road, was taken to UAB Hospital where he sustained “life-altering,’’ injuries, according to a GoFundMe started for Holmes and his family.
“Will is one of the kindest, most hardworking people you’ll meet,’’ according to the GoFundMe. “He’s a loving father, a devoted partner, and someone who takes great pride in providing for his family. His strength and resilience are remarkable, but this accident has turned his world upside down.”
Angela Jamya Hall, 22, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury. She was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Jan. 2 and released the same day after posting $15,000 bond.
The GoFundMe was started by Holmes’ fiancé, Elizabeth Averette, and Vestavia Hills resident Allison Cheatwood.
According to the fundraiser, Holmes has undergone multiple surgeries and now has plates and rods in his fractured left arm.
He’s in a cast from wrist to shoulder, which he’ll need to wear for at least six months, potentially longer depending on his healing process which will also require extensive recovery and physical therapy.
Additionally, he suffered a broken toe and a concussion.
“Elizabeth is working tirelessly and seeking additional opportunities to make ends meet, but her income alone is not enough to cover the mounting costs. Medical bills, follow-up appointments, physical therapy, and everyday living expenses are overwhelming,’’ the GoFundMe states.
“Will’s recovery means he won’t be able to return to work for the foreseeable future.”
“Your kindness, generosity, and prayers mean the world to us as we navigate this difficult time,’’ Cheatwood wrote.
“Although Will and Elizabeth have consulted with an attorney for guidance on the legal aspects of this situation, the legal process may take time; the support of their community is essential in helping them manage immediate expenses and focus on Will’s recovery during this challenging period.”
