Domestic shooting at Shelby County apartment leaves man seriously injured, woman jailed
A shooting at a Shelby County apartment complex left a man seriously injured and his girlfriend behind bars.
Shelby County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 12:03 a.m. Thursday to a report of a person shot on Stonecrest Drive off U.S. 280.
Chief Deputy Clay Hammac said deputies arrived to find the man had been shot twice. Court documents say he was shot in the chest and the buttocks.
“The shot to the chest caused injury to the victim’s right lung which led to a large amount of internal bleeding,’’ according to charging documents.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Hammac said he is expected to survive.
Rebecca Faith Lataste, 48, is charged with attempted murder and domestic violence/first-degree assault.
Authorities said the suspect and the victim live together.
Lataste is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
