Dog-walker finds dead body in east Alabama creek

Unidentified remains of a male were found Monday in an Anniston creek, near the intersection of F Street and Noble Street, police say.

Police told The Anniston Star that a person was walking their dog around 9 a.m. when the dog wandered away, prompting the discovery of the remains.

The body was located in around six inches of water and had been there for “a while,” Sgt. Jason Hawkins said.

Due to the high decomposition of the remains, a positive identification could not be made, Hawkins said. The only thing police can tell at this time is that the body was male.

Anniston police will send the body to the Alabama Department of Forensics Science for further identification and a full autopsy, Hawkins said. Until that report comes back, Hawkins said the department is at a “standstill.”

Hawkins said the man had some type of twine or rope holding up his pants, indicating that he was possibly homeless.

No obvious puncture wounds or other foul play could be observed; however, Hawkins said nothing will be ruled out until the report comes back from DFS.
