Documentary being filmed on McIntosh, a small town with a big chemical footprint

A new documentary is being filmed featuring McIntosh, a small Washington County town with nine chemical plants, but instead of pollution and environmental justice, the documentary is expected to focus on allegations of stolen land.

Last month, Tyrik “Keyz” Washington, founder of New Day Music Group, an entertainment and media company based in New York, was in McIntosh to film interviews with residents of the small town 40 miles north of Mobile.

Over the years, McIntosh has been connected to allegations related to its two chemical plants operated by Olin Corporation and BASF. McIntosh residents say that living in close proximity to these plants has caused them health problems, including high rates of cancer and respiratory problems.

But the documentary, while not about environmental pollution per se, will focus on how the chemical plants in McIntosh got there, starting with former Alabama Congressman Frank Boykin.
