Doctors warn against latest TikTok #eggprank challenge

Doctors are warning against the latest TikTok challenge that involves parents cracking an egg on a child’s head.

Called #eggprank, the videos show a parent with a young child in the kitchen, NBC News reported. The parents tell the child they are going to crack a raw egg and then, instead of doing it in a bowl, they crack it on the child’s head before pouring it out.

The hashtag had more than 670.7 million views as of Tuesday.

While not as inherently dangerous as some viral TikTok trends, Dr. Meghan Martin, a pediatric emergency medical physician at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, told NBC News she was “not a big fan of this at all.”

“This is not something that benefits kids in any way, and I honestly don’t find it entertaining,” she said.

“We’re literally smacking salmonella on their foreheads,” she added. “It’s harder to get a toddler to drink fluids when they’ve got a stomach bug or food poisoning, and so they’re more likely to end up in the hospital for IV fluids.”
