Do you need a REAL ID, STAR ID to cruise? Carnival Cruise Line shares clear answer
The deadline for a REAL ID, the enhanced drivers’ license and security cards known as STAR ID in Alabama, is May 7. After that date, travelers age 18 and older could face delays or other issues if they don’t present an Enhanced ID or passport.

What about cruise ships?
ID changes have prompted a tidal wave of questions from travelers and now, Carnival Cruise Line has clarified one important point for its passengers.
Brand Ambassador John Heald recently responded to Facebook rumors that REAL ID will be required for all closed-loop cruises, that is, one that starts and stops in the U.S.
Heald said false narratives have been circulating online, mostly related to a photo of a cruise terminal sign that lists required documents.
“It appears we have a very special Facebook page posting that everybody, or guests, now need a Real ID when they cruise. They are posting photos of this sign saying that we have announced that everybody must have a Real ID,” Heald wrote to his 612,000 Facebook followers. “This sign has been at embarkation for almost 2 years. It is not anything new.
“So just to reiterate, you do not Real ID to cruise,” Heald wrote.
Cruises that begin and end in the U.S. can provide a passport or a birth certificate accompanied by a state-government-issued photo ID to cruise. Passports or enhanced ID will be required to fly domestically, and passports are needed for international travel.
