Dispute between 2 employees over money led to shooting inside Birmingham warehouse; suspect charged
A shooting inside a Birmingham warehouse that left a man critically injured resulted from a dispute over money between two employees, according to authorities.
Birmingham police on Thursday night announced the arrest of 36-year-old Antoine Dailey. He is charged with attempted murder in the wounding of the victim.
Just before 8:50 a.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to Dawson Tarpaulins Inc. at 2617 24th Street North on a report of a shooting.
The business manufactures tarps for 18-wheelers.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said they arrived to find the victim – an adult male employee- shot multiple times.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service rushed him to UAB Hospital with critical injuries. He remains in stable condition.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was working when police say Dailey entered the warehouse and fired shots. Police said Dailey also worked at the business.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said Dailey surrendered to police on Wednesday. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office obtained warrants against him on Thursday.
Fitzgerald said the motive in the shooting appears to be an ongoing dispute over the victim owing Dailey money.
Dailey’s bond is set at $60,000.
