Discount chain Five Below plans to open 3,500 stores by 2030
Pennsylvania-based discount store Five Below has big plans to expand.
According to PennLive.com, the discount chain has 15% more stores now than it did just one year ago. Last year, the discount retailer opened 205 stores, a company record. Over the next several years, the Philadelphia-based chain plans to more than double that amount of stores, reports Pennlive.com.
Five Below ended 2023 with 1,544 stores across 43 states.
In a 2023 conference call with analysts, company CEO Joel Anderson said Five Below plans to launch a loyalty program in 2025, reports The Street.
“I think we are at the point of starting to explore loyalty,” Anderson said. “Now that we’ve got some of the base in place to start looking at putting in a loyalty program. But the groundwork’s been laid. And as we continue to see more normalization of our business and we’re back to playing offense.”
This month, Anderson also announced the retailer plans to scale back on self-checkout due to higher than anticipated levels of shrink, reports Retail Dive.
