Disabled vehicle marked with yellow tape? Here’s what it means, according to Huntsville officials
Snow and ice have caused traffic issues across north Alabama Friday and, in some cases, people have had to abandon vehicles due to the weather.
You will likely see yellow tape, or “crime scene” tape, on some of these vehicles, according to Huntsville Fire and Rescue. That means the vehicle has been checked for stranded occupants.

The tape will be placed on door handles, mirrors and antennas.
There is a reason for the tape, officials said. Marking the vehicles allows for fewer 911 call reporting the same vehicle.
If snow or ice makes driving on the roads impossible, Huntsville Fire and Rescue urges drivers to pull over to the shoulder to keep the road clear for emergency vehicles.
As of 3 p.m., the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said state and federal roads in Lawrence, Limestone, Morgan, Madison, Jackson, Marshall and DeKalb counties have been treated but county roads remain impassible. Additional issues are expected to arrive as temperatures dip below freezing again tonight.
