Diocese of Birmingham ordains new priest, assigns clergy

Bishop Steven Raica, head of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham, ordained a new priest on June 24 and has assigned clergy to new posts effective July 5.

The Rev. Daniel Sessions was ordained on June 24 in a service at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham. Sessions will become parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville on July 5. He remains auditor of the diocesan tribunal and a notary of the diocesan chancery.

In other assignments, the Rev. Robert J. Sullivan was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood. He remains vicar general and director of the education foundation for John Carroll Catholic High School.

The Rev. Jonathan Howell was appointed pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Florence.

The Rev. Justin Ward was appointed pastor of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Birmingham. He remains vicar for sacred liturgy and episcopal master of ceremonies.

The Rev. Wyman Vintson was appointed pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Gardendale and St. Henry Church in Warrior. He remains diocesan director of vocations.

The Rev. Anthony Vadakara was appointed administrator of St. Cecilia Church in Jasper.

The Rev. Pachomius Alvarado, a new ordained monk at St. Bernard Abbey, was appointed parochial vicar of St. Francis Xavier Church in Birmingham.

The Rev. Jose Raphy Ambooken has been assigned as parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Church in Huntsville.
