Did Desmond Howard reference Montgomery riverfront brawl with Alabama-Texas GameDay pick?

During ESPN’s “College GameDay,” Desmond Howard predicted Texas would beat Alabama, but, in the process, did he reference the Montgomery riverfront brawl?

Many across social media appear to think so.

“Pete (Thamel) already told us that NFL scouts say Texas has more guys draftable than Alabama,” Desmond Howard said Saturday. “Quinn Ewers cut his mullet. Texas is going to beat Alabama.”

The former Michigan star than grabbed a white folding chair with a Longhorn logo on it to illustrate his point. The Longhorns beat the Crimson Tide 34-24, but the talk early Saturday was about the reference.

The viral Aug. 5 melee in Montgomery saw five people charged in a brawl that drew national attention as white boaters fought with Black riverboat crew members. Police said four white boaters were filmed hitting and shoving a Black riverboat captain in Montgomery.

They pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault charges.

A Black man, who police said was filmed swinging a folding chair in the subsequent melee, has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges. Videos of the brawl were widely shared on social media and spawned a multitude of memes, jokes, parodies, reenactments and even T-shirts.
