Did a tornado hit south Alabama? Damage to be surveyed today

The National Weather Service will take a look at damage from a possible tornado in southeast Alabama today.

The weather service office in Tallahassee, Fla., which covers five counties in southeast Alabama, said on Wednesday that it will send a storm survey team to Geneva County today.

Storms began to rotate as they moved through parts of Dale, Henry, Houston and Geneva counties on Tuesday between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. CST, and storm spotters captured video of what appeared to be a tornado northwest of Hartford.

The weather service issued several tornado warnings during that timeframe.

The weather service said it was sending out meteorologists to the area today. They will look at any storm damage and confirm whether it was caused by a tornado.

If a tornado is confirmed then it will be given a preliminary rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which runs from EF-0 (weakest) to EF-5 (strongest).

More details will be released as they become available.
