Did a tornado hit northwest Alabama? Weather service surveying storm damage
The National Weather Service in Huntsville was in northwest Alabama on Sunday to see if a tornado touched down last night.
The weather service said a storm survey team was to look at damage in northern Colbert and southern Lauderdale counties.
A tornado-warned storm moved through that area late Saturday, and there were reports of power flashes at the time. Damage has also been reported in those areas.
The weather service said it expects to release the results of the survey later this afternoon.
Several other storms prompted tornado warnings late Saturday and on Sunday, but so far no other damage surveys have been announced in any other part of the state.
Severe storms remained a concern in parts of south and east Alabama on Sunday, and a tornado watch was to be in effect for some of those areas until 6 p.m.
