Device from Birmingham startup can detect drug overdose: ‘These are people’

While struggling with drug addiction, Kyle Berman lived in a tent behind a Pep Boys for two years. He had been arrested nine times. He lost 16 friends and his younger sister, Brooklyn Berman, 24, to overdoses.

Now, Berman owns a home in Birmingham, is five and half years sober and has created a device that can detect when an overdose is happening. He hopes that simple wearable devices, like the one his company is developing, will prevent overdoses and save lives.
