Deputy shoots man during traffic stop in Mobile County
A man is hospitalized after being shot by a sheriff’s deputy in Mobile County early this morning, the authorities said.
It happened when the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 158 and Jones Road, according to Lori Myles, the sheriff’s public affairs director.
“The driver of the vehicle refused to show identification and was uncooperative,” Miles said in a press release.
Miles said a deputy fired after the driver reached for something inside the vehicle. She said the authorities found a gun and drugs in the vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.
Miles said the driver still has not provided his name. She said the sheriff’s office will release more information after they serve search warrants and complete and initial investigation.
