Demopolis man is 4th suspect charged in 2021 killing of Tuscaloosa teen
A fourth suspect has been charged in the 2021 shooting death of a teen in Tuscaloosa.
The shooting happened about 12:15 a.m. that Saturday – June 12, 2021 – in the 3200 block of Willow Lane. Tuscaloosa police received multiple calls about the shooting.
When they arrived, they found 19-year-old Versaun Leonard dead.
Three other people – Brenygha Edwards, Justin Jenkins and Quartavius Hudson – were arrested on capital murder charges within weeks of Leonard’s slaying, said Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy. All three were from the Marengo County area.
Court records show two of those suspects are set to go to trial next. The disposition for the third suspect was not immediately available.
Kennedy said investigators at the time believed a fourth person was involved.
Over the past year, he said, investigators with the VCU, Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Office and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Intel Unit worked together to identify 23-year-old Quentin Hudson, of Demopolis, as the fourth suspect.
They obtained a capital murder warrant against him and began searching for him. Last week, Hudson surrendered to authorities in Montgomery.
He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail Monday and remains held without bond.
Charging documents state Leonard was killed during a robbery.
