Deion Sanders, Colorado self-report minor NCAA violations, including Yoga instructor, social media

The Colorado football team, under Deion Sanders, self-reported 11 minor NCAA violations since the former NFL star was hired in December of 2022.

USA Today broke down the violations, which include his frequent use of social media and a yoga instructor.

On Aug. 16, per the report, a strength and conditioning intern conducted a team-wide, 30-minute yoga session. The intern was not one of the five declared strength and conditioning coaches, causing the football staff to exceed the NCAA limit of strength coaches by one.

As a result, countable athletic activities were reduced by one hour on Aug. 17 and rules education was provided to the strength staff and football staff on Aug. 16.

Three of the violations were a result of Coach Prime’s social media accounts.

  • All coaches were taken off the road and couldn’t evaluated for a week after a May 16 incident when Sanders hosted an Instagram Live session, and a recruiting prospect was featured.
  • On Dec. 28, 2022, Sanders posted an image on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, which showed a spreadsheet of prospects. Schools are prohibited from publicizing recruits before they sign.
  • In January 2023, Sanders reposted a video on Instagram of his team’s voluntary activities, which is a violation.
