Defender earns Week 11 Cunningham Bounds Coastal honors
The Week 11 Cunningham Bounds Coastal Alabama Football Player of the Week turned in stellar big plays on defense to help his team to its fourth straight win to close out the regular season.
Noah Cain of Bayside Academy had six tackles, two pass breakups and a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown as the Admirals beat Alabama Christian 35-7 last week. For his efforts, the sophomore earned 25 percent of the votes cast in the weekly poll.
Bayside (8-2) makes the 5-hour drive from Daphne to Jacksonville (8-2) for its opening-round Alabama High School Athletic Association playoff game on Friday.
Jackson freshman EJ Crowell finished second in the balloting. Crowell ran for 202 yards and four touchdowns in the Class 4A Aggies’ 45-14 win over 7A Davidson.
Ty Goodwill of Faith Academy had two rushing TDs, caught six passes for 55 yards and had 10 tackles as the Rams beat LeFlore 21-6.
Voting for the Cunningham Bounds Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.
In Week 11, more than 41,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
