An investigation is underway after a decomposed body was found in a small wooded area in western Birmingham.

The discovery was made shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday near an alley off the 1500 block of Tuscaloosa Avenue. The location where the body was found is behind houses.

A nearby resident was walking through the alley when spotted what he believed to be human remains.

Police have roped off the area and detectives are responding to the scene.

Police said it’s too soon to determine if foul play was involved. It is an unclassified death investigation as of right now.
