Decatur police have arrested a woman in connection with the discovery Tuesday of the body of a newborn in a dumpster outside a business.

According to Decatur police spokesperson Irene Cardenas-Martinez, officers conducted a welfare check Monday on Cindy Nicole Crow, 36, who was believed to have recently given birth. According to police, Crow had been pregnant as early as February, but her newborn baby was unaccounted for.

Shortly after on Tuesday morning at about 9 a.m., investigators acting on information searched a dumpster on the property of Wally World Mini Mart, at 2505 Point Mallard Drive S.E.

Inside the dumpster, police found the body of a newborn baby girl in a trash bag, stuffed into the bottom of the dumpster underneath large bags of trash, Cardenas-Martinez said.

The body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy.

Crow has been charged with abuse of a corpse, a felony. She was booked into the Morgan County Jail where she is being held on a $200,000 bond.

According to police, additional criminal charges are likely as more evidence is obtained, pending the autopsy.
