Decatur police on Wednesday said they are searching for a serial rapist who sexually assaults his victims during burglaries over the last eight months.

In all three incidents stretching back to April 27, the suspect gained entry through an unlocked window before sexually assaulting the victims.

The suspect has been described by victims as a Black male between the ages of 20 and 45, about 5-feet 6-inches to 5-feet 9-inches tall with a slender to medium build.

He has covered his face during the incidents.

Decatur police urged residents to lock their doors and windows, especially during the night.

The first burglary occurred the night of April 26 on Ferry Street NE, where police said the suspect entered a home through an unlocked window and sexually assaulted the victim.

The burglaries and sexual assaults continued Dec. 7 on Hay Drive SW and again early Saturday morning on 2nd Avenue SW.

Decatur police’s Criminal Investigation Division asked anyone with information that may be helpful to the case or leads on the suspect’s identity to call the department’s tip line at 256-341-4636.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity was asked to call Decatur police at 256-341-4660 to report it.
