DeBoer: Parker Brailsford likely unavailable for Alabama on A-Day

Alabama football will be at less than full strength on the offensive line for Saturday’s A-Day game. The Crimson Tide will likely be without the services of transfer center Parker Brailsford, who is currently not practicing with the team.

Speaking during a Thursday press conference, UA head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed that Brailsford is likely to be unavailable on A-Day.

“Right now I wouldn’t plan on him, just with the limited practice that he’s had throughout the spring,” DeBoer said. “He didn’t practice today, so I wouldn’t be putting him out there in that spot. But he’ll be with us here sooner than later, getting the regular workouts. He’s doing all the things to make sure he’s ready to go.”

Brailsford followed DeBoer to Alabama after Washington’s run to a Pac-12 championship and the national title game. The Huskies won last year’s Joe Moore Award, which goes to the nation’s best offensive line.

Once in Tuscaloosa, Brailsford began competing for the center job vacated by Seth McLaughlin’s transfer to Ohio State. James Brockermeyer is also in competition for the job.

According to DeBoer, Brailsford is still working out with the Crimson Tide’s strength coaches.

“Parker is just going through non-football-related things. He’s gonna be with us,” DeBoer said on April 6. “He’s never done anything wrong. It’s nothing like that. It’s working hard and he’s gonna be ready to go here sooner than later. Just taking it day by day. He’s gonna be here with us. It’s not a transfer thing. It’s nothing like that. Just want to make sure I’m clear. It’s nothing on his end where he’s done anything wrong or anything like that.”

The annual A-Day game, DeBoer’s first with the Crimson Tide, is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The exhibition will be aired on ESPN.
