Death of Walker County jail inmate under investigation
A Walker County Jail inmate who died overnight was declared dead on Saturday morning, said Walker County Coroner Joey Vick.
Vick said he got the call after midnight on Saturday morning.
Although there were no obvious signs of foul play, the body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science to determine cause of death and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating, Vick said.
“That’s standard procedure,” for a jail death, he said.
The inmate was a male in his forties, but identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Vick said.
