Deadly listeria outbreak linked to chicken alfredo fettucine sold at Kroger and Walmart

Food service company Fresh Realm is recalling some ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine alfredo products after reports of multiple deaths and more than a dozen illnesses linked to listeria contamination.

According to an alert from the Food Safety Inspection Service, the company is voluntarily recalling all products produced prior to June 17, 2025. The ready-to-eat products were shipped to Kroger and Walmart retail locations nationwide.

The following meals are affected by the recall:

  • 32.8-oz. tray packages containing “Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine.” The product contains tender pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese with best-by date of June 27, 2025 or prior.
  • 12.3 oz. tray packages containing “Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine” with a best-buy date of June 26, 2025.
  • 12.5 oz. tray packages containing “Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo” with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese” with best-by date June 19, 2025 or prior.

The Food Safety Inspection Service and public health partners are investigating the listeria outbreak. As of June 17 there have been three reported deaths and one fetal loss associated with this outbreak. The outbreak has also sickened 17 people in 13 states.

The Food Safety Inspection Service is concerned that some consumers may still have the meals in their freezers. The agency is urging customers who have purchased these meals not eat them and throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased.
