David Pollack reacts to ESPN layoff: ‘I don’t know what’s next’

David Pollack responded to news ESPN had let him go as part of company-wide cut of on-air talent, saying he didn’t know what’s next for his career but he appreciated all the company did for him.

The analyst for “College GameDay,” the network’s college football pregame show, took to Twitter to address the news, which broke earlier in that, that he wouldn’t be returning to the popular traveling Saturday show.

“I think a lot of the news came out today, a lot of y’all heard I won’t be brought back to College GameDay next year or to ESPN,” the former Georgia star said. “I just want to say thank you to so many people, I just appreciate everybody along the journey, 12-13 years ago, ESPN taking a chance on me and all the people I got to work with. Man, I got to work with some great people and do so many things that were so awesome for many years and I’m just thankful for it.”

The cuts are part of the plan by The Walt Disney Co. to lay off thousands of employees – including ESPN as part of a previously announced plan to eliminate 7,000 jobs this year.

“I don’t know what’s next, I have no clue what’s next in my life,” Pollack said. “But one thing God has shown me all along the way is He is for me. He’s not against me. NFL: broke my neck, career is over, found TV. Found coaching the last couple of years, found speaking the last couple of years so I know God has something amazing for me.”

The job cuts include entertainment, ESPN, parks, experiences and products. The company previously said that it doesn’t expect the job cuts to impact hourly frontline operations roles at its parks and resorts.

Disney CEO Bob Iger had announced in February that the company was going to cut about 7,000 jobs as part of an ambitious companywide cost-savings plan and “strategic reorganization.” The job cuts amount to about 3% of the entertainment giant’s global workforce.
