David Pollack: Comment wasn’t ‘shot at Nick Saban’ after Alabama coach’s reaction goes viral
David Pollack was taking “a shot” at Alabama coach Nick Saban when he declared Georgia has “taken over college football,” the ESPN analyst said Tuesday.
“First of all, I didn’t even thing about who I was sitting next to when I said it,” Pollack said during a Tuesday appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up.” “It had nothing to do with having Nick next to me.
“We were at halftime, you know how this works, we have to talk about something and it dang sure wasn’t the game.

No. 1 Georgia was up 35-7 over No. 3 TCU at halftime and went on to claim its second straight CFP national championship with a 65-7 win. At halftime, Pollack – a former Bulldogs player – stated Georgia “has taken a hold of college football.” He made the statement, sitting next to Saban.
Social media blew up. The idea that someone would made such a claim sitting next to arguably the greatest coach of all time, who just finished with the No. 1 signing class in the country and has won seven national championship, seemed sacrilegious to some.

Saban’s reaction also raised eyebrows.
Still, Pollack contends the comment had nothing to do with Saban, who was a guest analyst during the course of ESPN’s coverage of the national championship.
“It had nothing to do with taking a shot at Nick,” he said Tuesday. “Nick didn’t say a word. He wasn’t upset in the slightest. It was not a shot at Nick Saban.”
