Daron Payne stops Jalen Hurts on Brotherly Shove

Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne stopped the NFL’s “unstoppable” play on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Eagles had a first-and-goal at the Washington 1-yard line in the third quarter, and everybody in the NFL knew what was coming next.

The Eagles lined up for the Brotherly Shove (aka the Tush Push), the controversial quarterback sneak that Jalen Hurts has executed to seeming perfection inside a mass collision of football players.

But on Sunday, as the Eagles surged toward the goal line in front of and behind Hurts, Payne buried down, too, and caused the Philadelphia QB to fumble. Washington cornerback Kendall Fuller recovered the loose football at the Commanders 1, preserving a 17-10 lead with 10:09 left in the third quarter.

Hurts and Payne were teammates at Alabama in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, with the Crimson Tide reaching the CFP national-championship game in both years and winning the title in the latter campaign.
