Daphne parents in custody after 2-year-old tests positive for cocaine: Police

The parents of a 2-year-old are in custody after the toddler tested positive for cocaine and a subsequent search of their apartment uncovered Oxycontin, cocaine and three semiautomatic handguns — all within the toddler’s reach, according to Daphne police.

About 8 p.m. Saturday, Daphne patrol was called to the Atrium Apartments on County Road 64 after a report that a resident had found an unattended, naked toddler lying outside the front door of an apartment.

Medical personnel were called to the scene, who found the child was showing signs of heat exposure and dehydration. She was transported to a local emergency room, where testing found cocaine in her system.

The parents, identified as 21-year-old Hannah Straszheim and 23-year-old Tyler Still, were located and a warrant obtained to search their apartment.

Officers entering the apartment found it in “severe disarray” and located more than 100 Oxycontin pills, powered cocaine, drug paraphernalia and the three handguns.

Straszheim and Still were taken into custody, each charged with two counts of chemical endangerment of a child and possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both remained in the Baldwin County Jail as of Monday morning, each under $25,500 bond.

The child’s care has been turned over to the Alabama Department of Human Resources.
