Daniel Carlson, Josh Jacobs among NFL flag-bearers

Eleven players with Alabama football roots are wearing international flag decals on their helmets during Weeks 7 and 8 of the NFL’s 2023 schedule.

Across the NFL, more than 330 players and coaches are participating in the initiative intended to celebrate the league’s nationalities and cultures. Each decal will represent the flag-bearer’s native nation or country of cultural heritage.

Alongside the U.S. flag, players were eligible to wear the flag of another country or territory if they lived there for at least two years or had a relative born there. Some players were eligible to wear more than one international flag decal.

Players from Alabama high schools and colleges participating (with their nations) include:

· Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson (Auburn): Sweden

· Dallas Cowboys cornerback Noah Igbinoghene (Hewitt-Trussville, Auburn): Nigeria

· Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs (Alabama): Philippines

· Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (Alabama): Haiti

· Chicago Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. (Saraland): Netherlands

· Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III (Alabama): Nigeria, Canada

· New York Giants defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches (Central-Phenix City): Belize

· Arizona Cardinals linebacker Owen Pappoe (Auburn): Nigera

· Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama): Samoa, American Samoa

· Houston Texans linebacker Henry To’oTo’o (Alabama): Tonga, Samoa

· Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Prince Tega Wanogho (Edgewood Academy, Auburn): Nigeria

Participating coaches will wear patches on their jackets instead of decals. Among those coaches will be New England Patriots running-backs coach Vinnie Sunseri, a former Alabama safety. He’s wearing a patch for Italy.
