Damien Harris out of hospital after NFL injury
Sunday night’s NFL game provided another frightening scene for the Buffalo Bills as running back Damien Harris was strapped to a backboard and lifted into an ambulance on the field at Highmark Stadium to be carried to Erie County Medical Center.
Last season, the Bills endured the near death of Damar Hamlin on the field on Jan. 2, when the safety suffered cardiac arrest.
However, Harris had a neck injury, and Buffalo had gotten encouraging news about the former Alabama running back by the end of its 14-9 victory over the New York Giants.
That trend continued on Monday, when Harris was released from the hospital with full movement, ESPN reported.
“Things are heading in a good direction for Damien,” Buffalo coach Sean McDermott had told reporters after Sunday night’s game.
Tackled by linebacker Bobby Okereke on his first carry of the game, Harris did not get up after the 1-yard gain in the second quarter, and players from both teams waved urgently for help from the sidelines.
In his first season with the Bills, Harris had run for 93 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries and caught two passes for 16 yards in Buffalo’s first five games.
Harris joined the Bills as a free agent after rushing for 2,094 yards and 20 touchdowns on 449 carries and catching 40 passes for 281 yards for the New England Patriots in the previous four seasons.
Harris joined New England as a third-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft after leading Alabama in rushing yards in each of the previous three seasons.
