Dallas Cowboys NFL Draft odds: See what position our expert thinks Jones prioritizes
After three consecutive winning seasons, the Dallas Cowboys fell to seven wins last season.
The loss of Dak Prescott for more than half the season due to a hamstring problem played a major role in a failure to make the playoffs again. But in the previous three campaigns, the team won only one postseason game.
The team has multiple pressing needs to consider in the 2025 NFL Draft, and various positions might be in play when Dallas makes its first pick at No. 12 overall.
The Cowboys have two picks in the top 50, with the second at No. 44 overall. You can wager on who will get tabbed first by Jerry Jones and his crew this year. We look at the latest odds from BetMGM Sportsbook.

After perusing several mocks and the opinions of many draft analysts, there is no major consensus that I have found on which position will be likely targeted with the No. 12 overall pick.
The Cowboys are in a position where they aren’t in the mix for the very top choice at many positions but could still get one of the better players available at one of the prime positions of need.
Published reports have indicated that Dallas could also be very open to trading down or even upwards. BetMGM does list wide receiver as the mist likely position to be addressed with the first pick, and the Cowboys could still stay where they are at No. 12 and grab one of the top players at that position.
The need for a second WR across from CeeDee Lamb is very apparent. The top two prospects there are Tetairoa McMillan and Matthew Golden. They both have distinctive appeal, as McMillan is a sizable target, and Golen is versatile in how he can be deployed and offers more speed.
It might just come down to which one the Dallas decision-makers prefer, or we could see McMillan go off the board in the top 11 picks, leaving Golden as a clearer selection.
There is also speculation that the Cowboys could take a WR in the first round and a running back in the second, boosting the outlook of the offense overall, In a dream scenario, Ashton Jeanty would fall to No. 12, invigorate the running game and potentially become a new face of the franchise.
Dallas has the fifth-best odds at BetMGM Sportsbook to be the team that lands Jeanty, at +5000. The former Boise State standout is at -600 to be a top 10 pick.
Unless the Cowbus deal up, the chances of landing Jeanty don’t appear to be strong, and Omarion Hampton might be a reach in the top half of the first round. This year’s RB class is also considered to be a deep group, so betting on the Cowboys to draft an RB first seems to be a wager to avoid,
Defensive tackle is also a significant area of concern, but the best player, Mason Graham, will likely be gone by the time Dallas is up at No. 12.
As with Jeanty, trading up might be the only way to get into a slot to draft the player. Trading back to potentially target Derrick Harmon is also a possible scenario. Again, the Cowboys might be flexible with their first-rounder.
You can wager on defensive line/edge at +750, though, because there is a legitimate chance that the team could opt for an edge rusher with the first-rounder. That area may not seem to be as much of a need at others, but improving the pass rush more wouldn’t hurt.
Still, the offensive line does stand out as a more important position to consider, especially on the interior. Brian Schottenheimer is known to favor the running game and a physical offensive approach. Targeting a lineman and an RB in the early rounds is another possible approach.
More quality depth at cornerback is also likely on the minds of the front office, especially with Trevon Diggs on the road back from knee surgery. As with any draft decision, the choice will come down to best player available vs. need.
Considering that one or both of the top two players at the position might be available at No. 12 overall, I would wager on the Cowboys to draft a WR first at +130 at BetMGM Sportsbook.
