Dadeville shooting injured more people than originally thought, ALEA says: Handguns likely used

State investigators leading the probe into the shooting at a weekend birthday party in Dadeville that killed four and wounded 32 others remain said they are still trying to sort out the sequence of events that lead to the gunfire.

Nearly 48 hours after the shooting, few details have been released by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

In a written update Monday, State Trooper Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said, “Special agents did not recover any high-powered rifle ammunition at the scene; however, they did recover numerous shell casings used in handguns. Investigators are still processing all of the evidence, in conjunction with completing interviews, in an effort to solidify a motive, and potential suspects.”

Authorities have not said how many shots were fired or how many people are believed to have fired those shots.

The number of injured was previously listed at 28, but Burkett on Monday said that number has now risen to 32.

Four were killed: Corbin Dahmontrey Holston, Marsiah Emmanuel “Siah” Collins, 19, Philstavious Dowdell, 18, and Shaunkivia Nicole “Keke” Smith, 17.

Burkett said ALEA is asking for the public’s assistance.
