Cunningham Bounds Coastal Player of the Week scored 3 TDs in Week 7
The Week 7 Cunningham Bounds Player of the Week earned almost half of the votes cast in the AL.com poll. The standout performer scored a pair of touchdowns on special teams as his team stayed perfect in region play.
Senior Tre Smith of Washington County picked up 6,437 of the 13,712 votes in the survey – 47 percent of the total after he scored three times, including on two 89-yard punt returns as the Bulldogs won a Class 2A, Region 1 contest at Bayshore Christian. Washington County is 5-2 on the season and 4-0 in region play. The Bulldogs from Chatom travel again this week to Uriah to meet J.U. Blacksher in another region game.
Daphne quarterback JJ Thibodeaux finished second in the vote with 4,210 ballots, good for 31 percent. The 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore completed 10-of-14 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown and ran for 72 yards and three more scores as the Trojans beat Davidson 34-13 in a Class 7A, Region 1 win at home. Daphne (4-3, 2-2) is at Irvington for another region game against Alma Bryant.
Jackson junior QB Landon Duckworth was third in the balloting with 1,345 votes. Duckworth, a four-star prospect who holds 17 college offers according to 247sports, hit 12-of-16 passes for 339 yards and five touchdowns as the Class 4A No. 1 Aggies rolled past No. 7 St. Michael 55-16 to hand the Cardinals their first loss on the year. He also ran for a TD as Jackson won its sixth straight after a season-opening loss to 6A No. 1 Saraland. Jackson puts its 3-0 Region 1 record on the line on Friday at Orange Beach, also 3-0 in the region and 5-2 overall.
