Cunningham Bounds Coastal Player of the Week: All-around effort takes Week 4 vote
The Week 4 Cunningham Bounds Coastal Player of the Week turned in an all-around performance last week to earn a big victory in the AL.com poll.
Turner Tillman of St. Luke’s got 14,001 votes – 65 percent of the 21,421 total cast in the poll.
The sophomore caught a touchdown pass, blocked a punt and had 11.5 tackles in the Wildcats’ 29-0 Class 2A, Region 1 win over Central-Hayneville on Friday. Tillman finished with four catches for 68 yards and had five tackles for a loss as St. Luke’s improved to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 on region play. Both of Wildcats’ wins this season have been road shutouts – 22-0 at Marengo and 29-0 over Central – and their loss was a 20-0 setback on Sept. 6 at home against Washington County.
Blake Brunick of Orange Beach was second in the balloting with 10 percent of the total. Brunick scored five touchdowns for the Makos in a Class 4A, Region 1 win over W.S. Neal, 42-32. The junior running back/linebacker ran for four TDs and caught a pass for another score. He also had an interception and forced fumble as Orange Beach improved to 2-2, 1-0 in region play.
Junior quarterback Shondell Harris of Mary G. Montgomery was third in the voting with 9 percent of the total. Harris threw four touchdown passes in the first half of a 41-3 rout of Robertsdale. He finished the night with 210 yards through the air, completing 9-of-14 throws. The Vikings won their third straight to improve to 3-1 and 2-0 in Class 7A, Region 1 action.
