Cullman County man gets 99 years in prison for wife’s murder

A Cullman County man was sentenced to prison Wednesday in the 2021 murder of his wife.

Cullman County Circuit Judge Greg Nicholas sentenced 59-year-old Thomas Leon McClellan to 99 years in prison.

McClellan was convicted in April in the  shooting death of his 50-year-old wife, Tammy McClellan.

The deadly shooting happened Jan. 27, 2021, at a residence in the 3200 block of County Road 5 in Arkadelphia. Authorities at the time said gunfire erupted during a domestic dispute.

District Attorney Champ Crocker and his staff asked for the maximum sentence because of McClellan’s lack of remorse in the killing of his wife.

“The evidence at trial clearly showed the defendant intentionally killed Tammy. Her children and family have my prayers,’’ Crocker said following McClellan’s convicting. “They came to court every day to show support – and this office supports them.”
