Crime scene investigation buildings planned for Huntsville
The Huntsville Planning Commission cleared the way for the construction of a crime scene investigation building during its meeting on Tuesday.
The commission approved the location, character and extent of the Huntsville Police Department facility to be built north of Wheeler Avenue and east of North Memorial Parkway. A warehouse will also be included in the construction.
The buildings will be across the street from the current criminal justice complex. They will be constructed on a site that is currently used as an impound lot, according to Frank Nola of Nola Van Peursem architectural firm involved with the project.
“The project is comprised of two buildings approximately 15,000 square feet each,” Nola said.
The criminal forensics building will contain offices and areas for examination and preparation of evidence extracted from vehicles involved in crimes. There will also be areas for evidence storage and evidence processing.
The building will also include areas for the drying of evidence, “bloody clothes and things like this, and extraction of materials, chemicals, the discharge of weapons, everything that goes into a crime scene investigation,” Nola said.
