Cranes working on Calera train derailment, blocked railroad crossing
A train derailment has currently snarled traffic in Calera, according to police.
Police Chief David Hyche said Norfolk Southern currently has cranes on site to help clear crossings near Alabama 25.
According to police, a broken section of track caused a partial train derailment in the area, which is blocking traffic at Milstead Drive, Orangewood Circle and the entrance to the Lhoist North America plant.
In an announcement, Hyche said any residents with an emergency in the affected areas should call (205) 668-3505 for assistance.
According to police, Norfolk Southern has advised police that they currently cannot break the cars apart to clear the roads.
No timeline has been given for the clearing of the crossing.
