Country singer makes announcement as she divorces musician husband: ‘Happy pride’

Grammy winning singer-songwriter Maren Morris, known for country music hits such as “My Church,” “Girl,” and “Bones,” revealed she was bisexual in an Instagram post Sunday.

“Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+ happy pride,” she captioned a slideshow of images, which includes a snapshot of her holding up a rainbow flag in the coming out announcement. ‘Happy pride.’

The 34-year-old Arlington, Texas native filed for divorce from her husband of five years, musician Ryan Hurd, citing “irreconcilable differences” in Oct. 2023.

The couple, who are the parents of 4-year-old son Hayes, first met in 2013 and began dating in 2015. They were professional songwriting partners before their relationship became personal.

We had such a foundation built off writing so many songs over the years that we were like, ‘Why are we avoiding this?’” Morris said in 2017.

In Sept. 2023, the “80s Mercedes” singer released the EP “The Bridge” after announcing she was leaving country music for a pop music career.

Earlier in the year, Morris opened up about the lack of inclusivity in country music during an appearance on “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked.”

“Coming from country music and its relationship with LGBTQ+ members, I just want to say I’m sorry,” she shared. “And I love you guys for making me feel like a brave voice in country music. So, I just thank you guys so much for inspiring me.”

Morris is currently performing on the North American leg of her RSVP Redux Tour, which kicked off last month in San Francisco. The trek is scheduled to stop at the Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y. on July 3.
