Country music star’s estranged wife says she feared ‘evil’ husband would interfere with her surgery
Things just keep getting uglier as country music star Billy Ray Cyrus and his estranged wife, Firerose, exchange barbs on their way to divorce.
They have accused each other of abuse, and in the latest round, Firerose called Cyrus “an evil man” in a recent interview.
The 37-year-old also claimed that the 62-year-old Cyrus had “strict rules” for her during their brief, seven-month, marriage.
“I didn’t have a car,” she told Page Six. “I was only allowed to go to the local chiropractor and allowed once a month to get my nails done … it was systematic isolation, and I couldn’t find the courage to leave.”
She also claimed that she had to ask Cyrus for permission to send text messages and emails.
Just last week Cyrus responded to other accusations of abuse from Firerose by claiming that she, in fact, was abusive to him.
He denied her claims of “extreme abuse” while reportedly admitting that he was “certainly vocal, frustrated and angry.” However, in court filings, he reportedly claimed that “it is the Plaintiff who, in fact, has been abused.”
Cyrus reportedly claimed that he was verbally, emotionally and physically abused by Firerose.
He also reportedly countered Firerose’s claims of abuse by arguing that if true it would be “mindboggling to try and explain why, upon vacating (Billy Ray’s) premarital residence, (Firerose) would leave (Billy Ray) a handwritten note and then send him a text message stating in her word, ‘I am sorry’ and ‘please give me a chance to make this right. I can explain everything but I need you on my side.’”
Firerose, again, has denied the claims.
“The only individuals backing his false claims are those on his payroll, whose credibility is questionable,” her rep told InTouch.
It’s just another ugly chapter in the former couple’s split.
According to People Magazine, Firerose claims that Cyrus filed for divorce last month just a day before she was set to have a preventative double mastectomy. The site said she made the filing in Tennessee on June 14.
People said that the 36-year-old discovered she had the BRCA1 gene mutation which gave her an increased chance of getting breast cancer, and in March doctors “highly recommended” she have the procedure done to prevent that from happening.
But she reportedly said in her filing that “chaos” ensued at home as her surgery date grew near and that Cyrus “continually launched verbal attacks” against her. People said it reached out to Cyrus’ representatives, but they had no comment.
“When Wife would attempt to voice certain concerns, Husband would often call her a ‘selfish (expletive)’ and continually alleged that she was using him,” the filing said per People. “With Wife’s major surgery date looming, she was reasonably afraid to leave or seek any type of help because she feared that Husband would interfere with her surgery or her lengthy recovery at home.”
The report said she also accused Cyrus of “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse.” It said she also accused him of having “substance abuse issues” and that causes him to be “unpredictable and volatile.”
Cyrus filed for divorce on May 23. Firerose said she was scheduled for surgery on May 24.
In his request for an emergency restraining order recently, Cyrus sought to stop Firerose from “unauthorized” use of his credit cards and bank accounts.
People reported that Cyrus claimed that Firerose ran up $96,986 in unauthorized charges on his business account. The site reported that Cyrus claims $70,665 of that went to payments for her lawyers. Cyrus claimed that the charges made him concerned that she may make other “fraudulent, unauthorized charges to my business and personal credit cards and accounts.”
When he filed for divorce, Cyrus listed “irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct” as his reason, per People. The couple was reportedly married for just seven months.
Through her attorneys, Firerose has denied that she made any fraudulent charges, according to People.
“Throughout the divorce proceedings, the parties are to live as per the status quo during the marriage,” her lawyers reportedly argued. “Wife was simply living as she has since October 10, 2023, and Husband has no right to cut her off.”
People did report that Cyrus and Firerose did agree when he filed for divorce that she would move out of his home immediately, and that he would provide financial support for her “for 90 days or until the dissolution of the marriage, whichever comes first.”
