Country music legend ‘overwhelmed’ by support after debilitating medical condition announced

Oak Ridge Boys singer Joe Bonsall took to social media late last week to thank fans for support since he announced he was retiring from touring due to a medical condition.

“I am overwhelmed by the love shown to me this week,” he wrote on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “I think I have heard from everyone I have ever known and many many more …. Thank you doesn’t seem adequate … but THANK YOU.”

“Just goes to show how much you are LOVED around the world, Joe!!!” Trevor Thacker responded to the post. “I have enjoyed covering y’all over the years, the interviews, the laughs, y’all have ALWAYS been gracious.”

Bonsall, 75, has been dealing with the slow onset of a neuromuscular disorder.

“I am now at a point where walking is impossible, so I have basically retired from the road. It has just gotten too difficult,” Bonsall said in a statement. “It has been a great 50 years, and I am thankful to all the Oak Ridge Boys band crew and staff for the constant love and support shown to me through it all. I will never forget, and for those of you who have been constantly holding me up in prayer, I thank you and ask for you to keep on praying.”

Bonsall’s touring replacement will be Ben James, 27, known for his previous work with Doyle Lawson’s band Quicksilver, as well as Dailey & Vincent’s band.

He also warned people are posing as Bonsall on social media trying to get people to donate money.
