Cottage Hill Christian has promoted defensive coordinator Carvel Jones to head football coach.

The school announced the decision Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, head of school Chris Brazell confirmed that AHSAA Hall of Fame coach Stacy Luker had stepped down less than a month after being hired.

“Carvel Jones and his family love Cottage Hill Christian Academy, and that is very evident by their investment to our school,” Brazell said in a Thursday release. “He has a true desire to be our head coach. He is very relational to our school community, and he motivates our student-athletes as they strive to be the best the Lord has called them to be.

“Carvel Jones did a tremendous job leading our defensive unit last year, and he is one of the most humble and dedicated individuals I have ever met. He is ‘All-In’ as he wants this program and our student-athletes to succeed on and off the field.”

Jones was the defensive coordinator under Bobby Parrish in 2022. Parrish stepped down earlier this year following two years as head coach.

Jones also has served as defensive coordinator at both Luverne and Chickasaw and was a defensive assistant at Jackson in 2017. He played linebacker at Troy University.
