Cottage Hill finishes season with win over playoff-bound St. Luke’s
Tenereo Rowser Jr. tossed four first-half touchdown passes to lead Class 3A Cottage Hill over 2A rival St. Luke’s 36-15 on Thursday night in West Mobile.
The Warriors scored on their first four possession and led 29-8 at halftime.
Cottage Hill (5-5) covered a fumble on the opening kickoff, and Rowser found Vanderbilt commit Kelvon McBride two plays later for a 35-yard score.
The Wildcats (4-6) tied the game on a 6-yard run by quarterback Brandon Cooks.
However, Rowser connected on TD passes to Kaden Washam (6 yards), Trent Thomas (19 yards) and Tyler Thomas (13 yards) to put the Warriors firmly in front. They led 29-8 at the half.
“He did a great job of getting the ball out of his hand quickly, allowing the receivers to make plays,” Warriors coach Bobby Parrish said of Rowser.
Rowser passed for 222 yards and connected with 6 different receivers. He connected with Trent Thomas on an 8-yard score in the second half for his fifth TD pass of the game. The play capped the Warriors’ longest drive of the night.
Star of the game: Rowser, the Warriors senior quarterback, played his best game of the season, with five touchdowns and 0 turnovers.
“He played well tonight and, honestly the last three weeks, which have included victories for us,” said Parrish.
Play of the game: Trailing just 22-8, St. Luke’s drove inside Warrior territory in the first half, but Trent Thomas sacked Cooks, forcing the fumble and covering it all in one motion.
Stat sheet:. Jaborious Busby rushed for 86 yards for the Wildcats. Brandon Cooks had a 6-yard TD on the ground. Kam Chambers added a 1-yard TD.
“Brandon is a tremendous leader for us. He stays steady, not too high or too low when running the offense,” said St. Luke’s coach Ronn Lee.
Trent Thomas led Cottage Hill with 71 yards receiving. Lecedric Craig finished with 56 yards rushing.
