The AHSAA announced on Thursday that Coosa Christian’s varsity football program has been fined, put on restrictive probation and assessed additional forfeits for playing an ineligible player in violation of the Coaching Outside the School Year Rule.

Restrictive probation means Coosa is banned from participating in football championship play next season unless specific conditions are first met.

According to an AHSAA release, Coosa will forfeit wins against Cleveland, Southeastern, Falkville, Susan Moore and Cold Springs this year. The AHSAA said the investigation is still on going.

The AHSAA announced earlier this week that Coosa must forfeit the Cleveland game after the original report from the school stated the student in question participated in only one varsity game.

Upon further investigation, the AHSAA confirmed the ineligible student played in a total of five games. Coosa started the week 9-1 and ranked No. 3 in Class 2A. The forfeits drop the Conquerors to 5-5 overall and 1-5 in Region 6. They will miss the playoffs.

Southeastern now moves to the top spot in the region followed by Falkville, Susan Moore and Cold Springs. Coosa Christian does not play this week so the 2024 season is over.

A year ago, Coosa forfeited four wins in violation of the transfer rule, though the Conquerors still made the playoffs and eventually lost to Leroy in the 1A state title game.

A release from the AHSAA noted the restrictive probation was effective immediately and would conclude at the end of the 2025 football championship series next December. The AHSAA said the school has been given specific conditions to meet prior to the 2025 season and may appear before the Central Board of Control in July for a possible reinstatement into the 2025 championship season.
