Condoleezza Rice for Harvard president? Conservative influencers say yes
Could an Alabamian be the next president of Harvard University?
If conservative social media influencers were on the Ivy League college’s board of trustees, Birmingham native, ex-U.S. Secretary of State and Stanford University professor Condoleezza Rice would be tapped for the role.
Rice isn’t unfamiliar to media speculation — she’s been floated for everything from NFL commissioner to president of the United States.
On Tuesday, Harvard University president was the latest title to be connected to the Alabama native when liberal social media influencer Marc Lamont Hill suggested Harvard should replace Claudine Gay with another Black woman.
Gay resigned Tuesday amid plagiarism accusations and criticism over testimony at a congressional hearing where she was unable to say unequivocally that calls on campus for the genocide of Jews would violate the school’s conduct policy.
Conservative influencers responded to Hill’s tweet by pushing for Rice to get the job:
It’s unclear whether Rice, whose career in academia preceded her tenure as national security advisor and secretary of state during the George W. Bush administration, is interested in being Harvard’s next president. She has two roles at Stanford: director of the university’s Hoover Institution and the Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
But as an avid golfer, Rice looking forward to playing at the Regions Tradition golf tournament at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Hoover, according to the year in review she posted to Twitter:
In 2013 iteration of the tournament, Rice was an honorary chairperson of the event along with Mountain Brook native and “Friends” star Courteney Cox.
Rice has a connection to the Birmingham-based Regions: she served as a consultant and advisor to the company’s board after leaving the White House.
