Condition of woman injured by teen suspect who hit her car during chase upgraded

The condition of a 45-year-old woman who was ejected from her vehicle after it was hit by a teenage suspect trying to evade Mobile police on Monday has been upgraded from critical to serious, authorities said Tuesday.

The suspect’s vehicle, which police said was being driven recklessly, ran a red light southbound on Dauphin Island Parkway around 3:20 p.m. as officers attempted to stop the vehicle, said Cpl. Katrina Frazier.

A collision ensued between the suspect’s vehicle and the innocent motorist’s vehicle, ending the police pursuit. A third vehicle was damaged by debris from the crash.

The woman was ejected from her vehicle and she was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

On Tuesday, her condition was upgraded to serious, Frazier said.

The 17-year-old suspect had a 2-year-old passenger in tow, police said.

The child was not injured in the wreck.

Officers found drugs, a gun and drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s vehicle, said Frazier.

The investigation into the incident remained ongoing Tuesday.
