NFL Week 6 Commanders vs. Falcons odds preview

The Falcons (3-2) take on the Commanders (2-3) looking to build momentum against a wounded opponent after snapping their own two-game losing skid by edging out the Houston Texans 21-19 in Week 5 thanks largely to young Desmond Ridder’s solid game under center. The sophomore QB threw for over 300 yards.

Meanwhile, the Commanders were dismally beaten by the Chicago Bears last Thursday and have had 10 days to stew over that defeat, their second in a row. That game, the Bears’ first win of the season, saw QB Sam Howell sacked five times as he went 37-of-51 for 388 yards with two touchdowns and an interception against a team generally labelled as one of the worst in the league.

The Commanders have won the previous two matchups against Atlanta, including last season’s 19-13 win where Brian Robinson Jr. had 105 rushing yards.

Best Commanders vs. Falcons game props and odds: Falcons -2.5 (-110)

Washington have lost three on the spin and were outmatched by the Chicago Bears in a 40-20 defeat last time out. Atlanta, meanwhile, is 4-1 in its last five games against opponents from the NFC and has won five straight at home.

Let’s not beat around the bush; the Falcons are plainly the better team, with a top-10 defense and a more efficient run game. Oh, and they have both the home advantage and the momentum in their favour, as well as a strong run defense.

Washington should be good enough to compete but throw in the fact that the Commanders are 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games, and you can feel confident in Atlanta.

Best Commanders vs. Falcons game props and odds: Under 42.5 points (-110)

Neither Ridder nor Howell has really set the league alight this season and it’s fair enough to label both starters as below-average QBs at this stage.

Atlanta’s vaunted offseason offensive rebuild has yet to translate into domination on the field and the Falcons needed a last-second field goal to beat the Texans 21-19. Nine of the past 11 Falcons games have gone under the points total and that’s a trend that could be likely to continue. Atlanta’s passing game is hot at times but not at others, and Washington’s run game isn’t great. A low-scorer awaits.

Best Commanders vs. Falcons player props and odds: Bijan Robinson over 64.5 rushing yards (-110 at Bet365)

Whatever Atlanta does well, Robinson is likely to be at the core of it.

The rookie RB is a bona fide star, ranking eighth in the NFL in total rushing yards (364) and sixth for rushing yards per attempt (5.4). Overall, he’s carried the ball 67 times for a team-high 364 yards (72.8 per game). The Falcons’ previous home wins in 2023 have been hooked largely on the runner’s prowess. Even last week, when he put together only 46 yards, he stole the limelight with a one-handed, six-yard scoring catch.

Washington’s run defense is ranked 24th, so Robinson is likely to have a great deal more success on the ground.
